"Young Love"

November 15, 2018; Rondeau

Dancing in the dark, wrapped in night air
We spin and twirl and grin without care.
Dizzily, we plummet back to dirt,
Falling in love, hand under your shirt.
A fleeting summer evening to share.

Your fingers run through my frizzy hair,
Our whispers like reverent prayer.
The balmy breeze blows, ruffles my skirt,
Dancing in the dark.

We’re a mess, but a wonderful pair,
So lovely it is almost unfair.
My heart pounds so loudly it could hurt,
And I wish your bright gaze would avert.
We could stay forever, simply there,
Dancing in the dark.
