FADE IN:
High School Hallway - DAY
CHARACTER A walks through the hall, other students mill about.
CHARACTER A (VO)
Just one more class, then I can leave. You can do this, no biggie.
CHARACTER B and friends walk in a group in the opposite direction, talking and laughing.
CHARACTER B waves excitedly towards CHARACTER A
CHARACTER A (VO)
Huh? Why is CHARACTER B waving at me? Do they even know who I am? Oh God, what if they’re doing it as a joke?
CHARACTER A furrows brows, confused. Hesitantly raises hand, but then lowers it.
CHARACTER A (VO)
No, it’ll look rude if I don’t wave back. They’ve never been mean to me before why now?
CHARACTER A raises hand with slightly more confidence, giving a small wave back.
CHARACTER B speed walks past CHARACTER A, rushing to hug someone standing behind them.
CHARACTER A turns around awkwardly, grimacing when they realize that CHARACTER B was waving at someone behind them.
CHARACTER A (VO)
Okay, okay. Don’t panic. I bet CHARACTER A didn’t even notice, right? Right? I’ve never spoken to her before why would she wave at me? Why would she even bother to notice that I was STUPID enough to wave back? It’s fine, everything’s fine!
CHARACTER A forces a smile, cringing at themselves. They turn back around, adjusting their bag to keep walking.
CHARACTER A turns back around one final time, but looks shocked at what they see
CHARACTER B waves exaggeratedly at CHARACTER A. CHARACTER B smiles widely.
CHARACTER A
Oh my God, this is it. This is when I die. Are you there, God, it’s me, CHARACTER A?
CHARACTER B continues waving happily even as the rest of their group walks away.
CHARACTER A smiles, waves back, but not nearly as excitedly as CHARACTER B.
CHARACTER B turns back around and catches up with their friends.
End.
